February blog 2023

Updated: Aug 8, 2023

I recently had the very great privilege of going on a missionary trip to Ethiopia and Kenya with my friends from Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle. We ministered and served in various ways with different groups over the couple of weeks away. We met some lovely Christians who were sold out for God. We also helped reach out to children in need and those with disabilities. The thing that struck me was when the worship started the atmosphere changed. Obvious difficulties were replaced by praise and joy. It reminded me of this little passage in Philippians 4 v11-13:

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me

The apostle Paul was facing tough times. Yet note the wording when in a state of need:

“for I have learned “. It was not an obvious or natural reaction. Rather, by God’s grace - he choose to be content. I saw that first hand with many I encountered. In good times and in rough times they overcame and praised The Lord. Question: How is that possible?

“I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”. It was by the power of Christ!

Friends, I saw much we can learn from. Much we have to be grateful for, and much to thank God for. Let’s us learn from the example of those dear ones and take on board Paul’s words. May each of us learn and lean on Jesus.

Every blessing and love in Christ- Pastor John
