This month I would like to share a few thoughts on the importance of good company. It takes some people decades to learn the lesson good company is good for you and bad company is bad for you! Seems so simple yet why do we often miss it?
Do not be deceived: Bad company ruins good morals. (1 Corinthians 15: 3)
Many years of my life were spent among influences that were very negative in my life. Of course the responsibility inevitably lies with us. Yet putting the right influences in our life and having godly people around us will surely help us as we endeavour to lead a life for God. Get around mature Christians who know and love God’s word. Get around people with life experience who are led by God’s Holy Spirit.
Proverbs 13v 20 “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”
The most important thing is spending time with God yourself. The Lord Jesus intentionally and positively sowed into His disciples. One of them, Judas Iscariot, rebelled against Him. However, the others were taken on a journey; moulded and changed till they became unrecognisable! Allow the word of God to shape your life, don’t rebel against it. Spend time with Christ alone and then spend time in the company of those who know and love Him. Those who will encourage, those who will be honest with us when we need it and give us a godly perspective on life.
Proverbs 27:17 reads: Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another. Be blessed till next month. Much love in Christ.
