One of the great uncertainties heading out of lockdown is when and where can you enjoy a holiday. Can you go to your favourite country this year? Will you have to isolate before you go or on your return? Will proof of inoculation be required? Will there be any extra expenses? There are just so many unknowns! Many have opted for “staycations” this year yet even they are not so simple as they previously were with local restrictions and limited space as social distancing is accounted for.
This leads me to consider the word “holiday”. What type do you most enjoy? Is it lying on the beach basking in the sun? Or perhaps a city break is more to you taste? Some love to relax while others prefer a more active break; walking, cycling or even climbing a mountain!
The word was first introduced to us hundreds of years ago as “holy day”.
It was a day used to spend time in religious pursuits or observation.
God of course introduced The Sabbath day to observe which is a day set apart specifically designed to spend time with Him and to rest in His presence.
Have you ever really considered resting in the presence of God? Taking time to know Him better and listen to what He is saying to you?

The truth is a sun tan will fade and the benefits of the exercise diminish over time. No doubt it’s nice to have the memories or photos to look back on,
yet time spent with God has lasting and eternal benefit. Intentionally plan to spend time apart seeking Him. Take time out for reading and prayer. Fellowship in a local church. Speak to Him and listen to what He is saying to you and you will reap a spiritual harvest.
Whatever this summer holds for you and yours I pray you find peace and rest in The Lord. Enjoy the benefits of a “holy day” season and be blessed.
Much love in Christ- Pastor John
