There are big celebrations this month as the new King (Charles III) is crowned on Saturday 6th May. Some are very much looking forward to this event and a continuation of the monarch. Others not so much.
Some see it as money well spent, others an extravagant waste.
How will he do in fulfilling the role? Time will tell. He has many different expectations from various groups and people. To many it’s a great cause of celebration, yet others are much more pessimistic about the whole thing.
Luke 19v35-38:
And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.
And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.
And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;
Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest
This passage details the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem.
There was much exuberance and the crowd seemed jubilant and in good spirits. Yet within the week that same crowd would reject Him. “Away with Him, crucify Him”.
Now why you may ask, did they change their opinion so dramatically and so quickly? Well, Jesus was not the type of King they really wanted. They wanted immediate political freedom. Christ tells us His kingdom is not of this world.
The Lord Jesus offers freedom from sin, a new life and the promise of eternity in God’s presence when this life’s journey is over.
The question is how do you view Him?
The crowd were quickly dissolution when they realised He required trust in Him, repentance and faith. When His command to forsake all and follow Him was understood. We know Jesus is a true King. Loyal and loving to each of His subjects. He proved that by purchasing our redemption on Calvary’s cross.
Question: Are you one of the crowd (fickle and changeable) or one of His own - who want Him to rule and to reign in your life?
Political opinions come and go but Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.
