We are not far from entering a season where everything seems to be all go! The run up to Christmas can be somewhat hectic no matter how well prepared you think you are for it.
I personally am entering a very busy season right now. We are introducing more meetings as the church grows. I have a book launch at the end of this month for my autobiography “Butterfly Man”.
I am preparing for a ministry trip to Africa with some friends of mine who are Pastors to reach out and touch lives for Christ.
Even as I am writing this article it’s quite late and I still have rather a lot to do.
All of these things are good, yet there is only so much a person can do well. The famous preacher Charles Spurgeon was asked how he could achieve so much in a day. He replied “you forget there are two of us” (referring of course to The Lord).
Luke 10v 38-42:
Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
41 ¶ And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her
Here Martha - a good and godly woman was serving Christ as well as others. However, she was getting annoyed with her sister Mary who sat and listened at Jesus’ feet.
The problem was she was looking to others instead of looking to Christ.
She was trying to do the right things by her own best efforts, which exhausted and frustrated her.
However busy your schedule becomes in the next short time, take time to sit at Jesus’ feet and worship Him.
Martha did well but Mary did better. A few chapters later they are both serving, but this time Martha was no longer “cumbered , careful or troubled” She learned a great lesson that day . Pray God we do too.
Love and blessings from Pastor John and all @ GCF
