Hi folks, we have had a lot of changes in how we can again meet since last month’s blog. For example, at the time of writing no more than six people from two households can meet either inside or outside apart from some specific exceptions.
New laws have now been passed to enforce it too.
What will happen going forward as we head into the winter? I don’t know to be honest and neither do you. How then can we have any comfort or security moving ahead?
Habakkuk 3v17-19
Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.
The prophet Habakkuk was living in depressing times. Yet in these last few verses of his book he contrasts a “worst case scenario” with the reality of knowing God.
He paints a picture of potential famine and misery in verse 17.
Yet in verse 18 he speaks of rejoicing! Why?
His happiness is not dependant on circumstances, situations or other people.
His joy is based solidly in his personal relationship with God. A God he knows in an intimate and saving w ay. Verse 19 speaks about an animal that can climb mountains. The terrain is rough, yet it is equipped with all it needs to survive in those perilous conditions. God has made it “sure footed”, prepared for all that would come.
For those who have faith in Christ we have a certainty that no matter how hard that climb every step is a step closer to heaven. Jesus will lead and guide us and see us safely home.
Don’t rely on your own skill or expertise to see you through life. Fully trust The Lord who can see you safely to heaven whatever unexpected twists and turns are ahead of you.
Love and blessings till next month- Pastor John and all at GCF.
