One of the marks of a true believer is a deepening desire for The Lord. It’s generally quite noticeable in a new convert in particular.
1 Peter 2v1-3:
Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious
How then do we nurture and develop that? Well, there are many ways and these verses help us in that. ‘Laying aside’ is an important phrase here. Getting rid of what is not good for our spiritual growth and development and replacing it with what is. That includes prayer, reading and studying God’s word, fellowship and service. There is tasting the things of God and a going on with God. The Lord Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteous, for they shall be filled.”
As we mature in our Christian life so our spiritual appetites should develop too. The Apostle Paul when speaking to the Corinthian Church tells them:
“I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.” (1 Corinthians 3:2).
There is a going on and in a healthy spiritual life also a growing in God. Milk to meat is the analogy used.
We are so pleased that in Breakthrough this year we have seen brand new converts won for Christ. We wish for them and all of us to go deeper into the things of The Lord.
Our desire is that all who come through the doors keep hungry, keep being filled and keep on growing in Christ.
Love and blessings from Pastor John and all @ Breakthrough Church.
